Rosie the Nuclear Engineer

Astral Systems CEO Talmon Firestone came to me one day with a vision: “Rosie the Riveter, but instead of a rivet gun on her lap, it’s the Astral reactor.”

Customised for the UK-based nuclear fusion company, this rendition of Rosie sees her as a figurehead of revolutionary technological progress for the company, as well as celebration of women in science and engineering. Completed in time for International Women’s Day, her unveiling roughly coincided with the announcement of award-winning former NASA scientist Theresa Benyo as Chief Research Officer at Astral Systems, an inspiring female figure who hopes to help in ushering more women into senior roles in the industry.

The poster was digitally painted (by Izzy Haines) using reference from Norman Rockwell and a current iteration of Astral Systems reactor design.
